Where to Get the Best Plants for my Tucson Landscape

No matter what you’re buying, viagra sales  you have choices.  It often seems like you have too many choices.  If you want to buy a hamburger, buy viagra there you can get one from McDonald’s, Burger King, Carl’s Jr., Wendy’s, In-And-Out Burger, Culver’s or many other places.  What drives you to choose one place over another depends on how hungry you are, what the closest burger place is, your like or dislike of a particular burger, and maybe the cost.

The same is true for buying plants.  You have lots of choices.  You can even get your Tucson landscaper to buy them for you.  So, why would you choose one place over another?  Here are some reasons.

Home Depot and Lowe’s usually have a large amount of a limited selection of plants.  Their prices are generally much less than local nurseries.  And, they will usually take back plants that die as long as you have a receipt and your plant container. So, if you think you might kill your plant, get it from one of these garden centers.

Small independent nurseries like Magic Garden, Green Things and Rillito Nursery have a somewhat larger selection of plants and trees and can provide you with personal attention.  They are always happy to answer your questions and offer suggestions.

Larger Tucson plant nurseries such as Mesquite Valley Growers, Silverbell Nursery and Civano Nursery have a much larger selection of plants and trees that you may not find anywhere else.  And, if they don’t have it, they can get it for you.  They are often very busy and may not be able to devote much time to helping you.  But, they are extremely knowledgeable and will answer any questions you have.  Be prepared to know what you’re looking for though.  And, they generally charge more than some other places you can buy plants.

Lastly, there are specialty nurseries that only sell specific items.  These include Desert Trees, Bach’s Cactus, and Old Pueblo Cactus.  You usually end up at these nurseries if you’re looking for something specific that you can’t find anywhere else but is particular to their type of nursery.  They will be a wealth of information about their particular plant material.

And, you can always have your Tucson Landscaper do the hunting for you and buy and install your plants and trees.  This is always an option if you don’t want to do it yourself.  It saves you time but be prepared to pay more for the convenience of having them pick out the plants for you.  And, they should offer you a warranty on the plants.

If you’ve never been to the garden department or your local garden nursery, take a few hours on a weekend.  You’ll be surprised at all the great plants available for Tucson landscapes.  And, give us a call at (520) 370-5697 if you have any plant questions or need help doing your spring planting.

    • Betsy – then make sure you buy your plants from a garden center or nursery that will replace the plants if they die or give you a refund. You can try things out and if they don’t work you can try something else. Gardening can be easy and fun.

  2. Very good information on the various choices in nursery’s in Tucson. For flowers I use several of the places mentioned here. For fruit trees I have planted I have always used Civano. They delivered and planted my trees.

  3. Your infomation is invaulable. I would like to suggest you include the possibility of INDOOR plants, too. We (we’re in Phoenix) offer a beautiful selection of indoor plants from our flower shop, and we have taken care of them, watered them, talked to them, and allowed them to grow before we deliver them. Just a thought! Thanks!

  5. In Tucson, Mesquite Valley Growers has a nice selection of fruit trees. I’ve never seen that fruit before Dov. It reminds me of a tomato.

  9. Thanks for clarifying the differences between vendors. Everything we buy and plant seems to die regardless of whether we purchase from a high-end nursery or Home Depot.

    • Oh no Jen! There are so many plants that can really take a beating. I’m surprised they’ve all died. You may want to try having a professional plant a few things to see if they survive. If they don’t, you may have a soil problem.
